Bill carswell
A native and current resident of Central Texas, Bill Carswell is a musician, composer, and music producer. He’s been playing and performing a variety of musical styles for over 60 years. His musical interests are varied and don’t fit neatly into a single genre. After many years of being encouraged by friends and family to release some music, he began actively working towards that goal. Family, church, and a busy IT career have delayed that until recently. His first single has been released and is available now on this site.
Bill spent his early years in East Texas—primarily Beaumont. Life and school seeded and developed his love for listening to and playing music. His mother was a church pianist and passed on a large measure of innate musical intuition. He began learnng guitar in fifth grade and was asked to join his first band, The Variations, as lead guitarist two years later. He played lead guitar in other bands throughout high school. His parents provided two years of piano lessons beginning in fifth grade and he has been self-taught since then. He joined the school orchestra in fifth grade and began learning the cello which he played through high school and then again later in life.
Moving to Austin to attend UT brought new musical opportunities. Bill made sure that the piano at his dorm and others available on campus received regular exercise. On the weekends, his good friend Steve would drag him around to all the joints around Austin that had a piano and pester the managers to let him play, which often paid off. Early in his senior year, Steve convinced Bill to enter a campus-wide talent show at UT, which he won. The main prize was a paid engagement playing at the student union café and lounge, which later became the Cactus Café. The first engagement turned into several during the rest of that year which provided great solo performing experience. Bill became a Christian in 1975 just before leaving UT. He has since served in many ministry capacities at multiple churches for over 45 years.
Today, his goal is to leave a recorded musical legacy. His first single is something very new and unexpected for those familiar with his more recent music. As other releases become available, they will always be released on this site first and then made available via other public distribution channels. News of upcoming releases will also be available on this site. A convenient way to stay current on upcoming releases is to join Bill’s mailing list.*
